Welcome to BOOK CLUB. The first rule of Book Club is: you do not talk about BOOK CLUB. The second rule of Book Club is: you DO NOT talk about BOOK CLUB! Third rule of BOOK CLUB: if someone yells “stop!”, goes limp, or taps out...the book is closed. Fourth rule: only two worms choose a book. Fifth rule: one book at a time, y'all. Sixth rule: the reads are bare brain. No skimming, no skipping, no Cliffs Notes. Seventh rule: discussions will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Book Club...you have to read.
This group was originally created to help us come together to stimulate and inspire each other with reading material. I personally wanted to force myself to read more selections that I may not be inclined to choose otherwise, while also being able to discuss with friends...perhaps we have been following that first rule all too well, though? We have since opened it up to other forms of media, as we have begun to utilize movies with the selections during meetings because it’s fun and helpful to compare and contrast. Choosing a Book Club selection that has a movie to watch alongside is a bonus! Drive-way movies became a thing and vinyl parties should totally be a thing, for funsies. "The Greater Drifting Area Book & Multimedia Club" perhaps? Whatever we are, we is. It’s all super low-key. It's been a thing for over 10 years! Let’s just keep it going. We're all friends here! You'll love it. It's a way of life!
We will consume all media at a snail pace, because I am unfortunately the inch worm in the slow processor pace car and my mind is a hard monkey to wrangle, so don’t worry if you feel like you can't keep up enough to participate, because the truth is you absolutely can. It works out for both of us, because I continually get to challenge and hold myself accountable. You, on the other hand, get the ease of being a member of one of the most lackadaisical book clubs in existence. Win, win. I will post updates as to where I am or if I have fallen off into the void. Sometimes you may have to throw me a line? A hook? A sinker? Who knows? I like making a Daily Event for our selections because it will give you a reminder every day and then our past reads and discussions can be easily found later to peruse. It might seem annoying but most helpful things are, I have found. I will occasionally post discussion questions and updates regarding our selection, as My Nerdness deems fit. Feel free to post memes or anything relevant. We will occasionally meet in person to discuss our selections, watch the movie, deem the book better, muse and wax philosophical, like the intellectuals we like to think ourselves to be. Join me, friends!
